I am Kim Thomas-Pollei, a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, an adoring mother of two boys, and married to the coolest man on earth. The focus of my doctoral work is feminist rhetoric, rhetoric of science and technology, and writing studies. What is rhetoric? I don’t think I really know. This blog is a series of posts about my academic interests as well as a smattering of “real life.”
As far as the name of my blog, Hogarth Primer: Well, as most feminists are, I am inspired by the work/life of Virginia Woolf. The press she and her husband started in 1917 was called Hogarth Press. The Hogarth Press published many radical young writers such as Katherine Mansfield, T.S. Eliot, and Gertrude Stein. In an effort not to equate myself with the genius of Lady Woolf, or any of those published by her press, I have qualified my blog as a “primer.” So, there you have it.
