The dust settles, almost

So, the past three weeks have been quite eventful. Our move didn’t go off without a hitch. The day after my last post, on March 8th, I went out into our driveway to back up our car to go to the airport, slipped on black ice and ended up at the ER getting stitches in my chin. The next calamity involved driving 70+ miles per hour on the interstate and having the tread of my tire suddenly disappear—a complete blow out. This, while on the way to meet the movers. Finally, I threw my back out while moving furniture around in a room. But, I have to say, despite these minor misfortunes, we are somewhat settled into our new abode and doing well. Collin and Miles love the park next to our house and have started to make new friends in the neighborhood. It feels contenting.

Now, I just have to find the strength to finish the last four and a half weeks of my semester. I have it pretty well mapped out, but I still have a lot of research to do. Oh, and good news: I won a summer fellowship to work on the breast cancer research on which I posted about earlier. So, I’ll be spending my summer interviewing women at two breast cancer clinics. Exciting…

I’m reading a really interesting book right now for my feminist methods course called Testimonio: On the Politics of Truth by John Beverley. I think the theories in it will be very useful for me in terms of navigating my ethnographic study over the summer, particularly in reference to coding the data I collect from the women.
