State of denial
Published by kim January 24th, 2007 in Feminism, Rhetoric.I can’t bring myself to watch President Bush speak; he is far too annoying and comes across as an embarrasing simpleton. So, I did not actually watch the State of the Union address; rather, I read it. Reading it saves me from yelling nasty four-letter words at the television screen while watching our President speak (an effort of mine to avoid potty-mouth behavior that is unbecoming to a mother of two young boys). I’ll save you all from my commentary on the presidential rhetoric; but I must say, it is delightful that Bush’s approval ratings are in the twenties. One source says he is at 28%. Nixon was at a low of 24% when he resigned.
Please democrats, find a way to save us from this hell! Although, I’m not holding my breath–due to a lack of faith in politicians.
In a class I am taking this semester, the professor wrote an essay in 1998 called “The Discursive Performance of Femininity: Hating Hillary.” I haven’t actually read it yet but am anxious to get to that point in the semester; I may even jump ahead. This particular professor specializes in presidential rhetoric, so I am anxious to hear her commentary on the State of the Union. With Hillary now entering the race and a female speaker of the house, I am curious to see how U.S.ians react to the female presence. I’ll be taking notes.
